About Matthew Ash

Matthew is an experienced musician and educator with a passion for performing and teaching, based in Belper (Derbyshire).

Matthew studied piano with Katrina George and Marjorie Clementi before completing BMus(Hons) and MMus music degrees at Lancaster University. During this time Matthew enjoyed further training with Andrew West and John Clegg, and was awarded the Denis McCaldin Performance Prize for his final recital.

Matthew has performed extensively as recitalist and concerto soloist, and has worked with choirs, instrumentalists, singers and in music theatre as an accompanist and repetiteur. He has worked as accompanist for graded music exams of all grades and has taught music from Key Stage 3 to undergraduate level.

Matthew has also written for Pianist magazine, sits on the panel for the Pianist composing competition each year, and works for the Music Industries Association. Matthew is a member of the ISM (Independent Society of Musicians).
